The ability to focus our attention to a specific sound source in complex everyday situations is a very fascinating skill, which is widely described as auditory selective attention (ASA). A new approach wants to investigate ASA in a realistic virtual reality (VR) environment. Transferring existing paradigms into a VR environment raises the question on how to direct the participants’ attention towards target sounds. This thesis implements a paradigm in VR using the Unity game engine and evaluates the usage of visual cues in virtual reality in comparison to an existing paradigm through a listening experiment.
