Numerical Acoustics
Numerical acoustics is concerned with the development, improvement and optimization of numeric simulation tools for acoustic issues. Modern numeric procedures like the Finite-Element-Method (FEM) or the Boundary Element Method (BEM) allow a very exact simulation of acoustic wave propagation in air, liquids and solids. The physical correct modeling of marginal conditions, the coupling between models for air-borne and structure-borne sound as well as mitigation mechanisms are all part of current research topics as are the research and implementation of efficient numeric processes for solving the arising systems of equation.
