In vibroacoustics the generation of sound and its reflection via vibrating structures is examined. Important aids here are the analysis of spot impedance, surface speed as well as a modal analysis of the vibration modes. To determine these parameters you can use either commercial hardware like Polytec® Scanning Doppler vibrometers and software ANSYS, LMS Virtual LAB, as well as the measuring and analysis software ITA toolbox for MATLAB. Machine acoustics is concerned with simulating the vibration properties of electric washing machines for example. In this case the calculation follows through from the generation of the signal to the reflected sound signal. Various faculties have a part in the acoustic optimization of machines. A modern approach pursues the auralization of machine signals. The noise of machines cannot only be optimized with regard to their low acoustic power but also in psycho acoustic aspects. Another area of application is provided by machine diagnosis. Attempts are made to judge the wear and tear of machine components e.g. roller bearings based on acoustic measurements. The Chair of Technical Acoustics uses for this purpose a model based on the surface roughness of rolling contacts. This allows a reconstruction of the bearing signal.
