Your way to a Master application
Below you will find explanations on the application process for your Master degree program "Electrical Engineering, Information Technology and Computer Engineering". The following steps are necessary:
- First proof the requirements of the Master degree program EE, IT, CE.
- Then please register on the university platform RWTHonline. Detailled information about the registration process can be found here.
- Apply via the RWTHonline platform for the (1-Subject) Master degree program "Electrical Engineering, Information Technology and Computer Engieering" and then choose one out of the six majors. Here, you can find general instructions on how to apply for a Master program. Since all application are depending on where you completed your first university degree, we provide specific information about on master applications from students with a German degree or from students with an international degree.
Application routes for different target groups
Students of Bachelor Sc: ET, IT, TI at RWTH Aachen University
Graduates of our "own" Bachelor's program also have to apply. In this case, the examination of professional suitability is always positive, i.e. all Bachelor graduates of the Bachelor degree program in Electrical Engineering, Information Technology and Computer Engineering at RWTH Aachen University are admitted to the corresponding Master's program. You studied at a German University or you studied as German citizen at a foreign university?
You have obtained your Bachelor's degree in "Electrical Engineering and Information Technology", "Computer Engineering" or a comparable German-language degree program at a German university or university of applied sciences and would like to continue your studies with the Master's degree program "Electrical Engineering and Information Technology"? Then you are considered to be a resident of Germany. Your nationality is irrelevant. Or you are a German citizen and have completed your first degree abroad.
In addition to your personal details and your previous university education, we also need information from you about which major you would like to apply for within the Master's program and how you think you fulfilled the admission requirements. To do so, it is necessary to complete the supplement to the application form for the Master's program in Electrical Engineering, Information Technology and Computer Engineering.
Please submit your application documents in due time, i.e. by July 15th for the following winter semester or by January 15th for the following summer semester, to the address given in the online application form.
Information on language certificates
From winter semester 18/19, all majors of study in the Master's program in Electrical Engineering, Information Technology and Computer Engineering are offered in predominantly English; therefore, sufficient command of English has to be demonstrated by the applicants who have not acquired their study qualification at an exclusively English-speaking institution or have not learned Engish as their mother tongue. The following language certificates are accepted:
a) Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL) Internet-based Test (IBT) with a
Result of at least 90 points,
b) IELTS test with a score of at least 5.5,
c) Cambridge Test Certificate in Advanced English (CAE),
d) First Certificate in English (FCE) with a grade of at least B,
e) a certificate of English language skills at level B2 of the "Common
European Framework of Reference of Language (GeR)".
Such evidence is provided, for example, by a German Abitur certificate, showing that English
has been constantly taken as a subject and passed with the grade of "sufficient" up to the end of the qualification level 1 (grade 11 at G8-Abitur, otherwise Grade 12)
f) Placement test of the RWTH Language Center with the level B2 (MK 7).
We accept 'English-language institutions' from the following countries: Australia, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, New Zealand, the United States of America.
Language Certificates are submitted during the enrollment.
When does the GRE-Certificate have to be submitted? What results should I have?
At the time of application all applicants are obliged upload their results of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) General Test, that is the GRE-Certificate, with at least the following scores:Above 75% of all test takers in the test field "Quantitative Reasoning (GRE-QR)" (above 75th percentile) and above
15% of all test takers in the test field "Verbal Reasoning (GRE-VR)" (above 15th percentile).The result in the test field "Analytical Writing (GRE-AW)" is irrelevant.
Applicants who are citizens of a Member State of the European Union or the European Economic Area (EEA) as well as educational nationals, so called “Bildungsinländer”, are exempted from this rule.
You have a citizenship from an EU/EEA state but you did not study in Germany?
Please apply through the online application portal of RWTH Aachen University.
Please apply by July 15th for the following winter semester or by January 15th for the upcoming summer semester.
In a first step, your application documents will be checked formally by the International Office, e.g., regarding the status of your degree and the university in which you completed it and the required language skills.
The application documents will be internally forwarded to the Examination Board of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technoloy for the further check of the technical qualification.
