Abstract:
Several detailed investigations into the head-related transfer functions (HRTF) of adults have been performed in the past. However, little information is available about the effects of growth-dependent geometrical data of the head and torso of children and on the corresponding HRTFs.
Due to difficulties involved during direct measurements of HRTFs of children, CAD models were created, from which HRTFs could then be measured and calculated. At first, an investigation into the measurements needed to create an abstract model of a child's head was accomplished and all necessary geometrical data were obtained. Then a comparison of the HRTF of an adult and a six-month-old child was made. A database containing measurements of children aged four to six years was created and the data were analysed.
