Room Acoustics
The scattering
coefficient suitably describes diffuse reflections of the sound field and it is
defined as the ratio of the non-specularly reflected sound energy to the
totally reflected energy. It can be measured according to the ISO 17497-1.
Scattering coefficients for some surfaces have been given by Vorländer [in "Auralization", pp.311-317].
This project aims to collect and share random-incidence scattering coefficients, mainly as measured in
the scale model
reverberation chamber at the Institute of Technical Acoustics in Aachen.
Data are intended for reaserchers and acoustic consultants involved in room acoustics simulations. Detailed information about theory and measurements techniques may be found here.
The Database is an ongoing and open project: external contributions are welcome!
