Acoustic Virtual Reality
The area of acoustic comfort (Sound Quality) has gained increased importance in recent years. In order to understand and improve the acoustic comfort of products, devices or rooms, psychometric tests are necessary. Since these tests are usually very difficult to undertake in the actual device/room under test, mock-ups or models are commonly utilized for such tasks.
This project focuses on the development of a spatial audio reproduction system that can be used in any kind of mock-up used for comfort tests. Such a system has to deliver high quality spatial audio for the test subjects and have to be able to compensate for the inherent acoustic characteristics of the mock-up interior. For economical reasons, the number of loudspeakers used should be kept as small as possible.
